HP Pavilion laptop (don't remember the exact model) with 15.6 inch Full HD display

Processors: AMD Ryzen 5 3500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx
Memory: 8GiB of RAM (though for some reason Windows and Arch only see 6)
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon™ Vega 8 Graphics
128GB SSD and 1TB HDD
Dual-boot Windows 10/Arch Linux
Windows is installed on the SSD while Arch is installed on the HDD

Also bought an SSD to replace the HDD (after noticing how fast the SSD that came with it is) but one of the screws for the mounting bracket for the HDD is stripped and I haven't gotten around to trying to get it out (this is a refurbished laptop so I guess someone else stripped the screw)

Only had it a month, to replace an old desktop that was taking 4 minutes to boot up.
Connected it to the monitor off the old pc to give me 2 screens as I mainly use it for trading forex and shares, so having a 2nd screen is quite handy - the adapter I  needed to connect it only cost £5, so it was a bit of a no-brainer really

Mine is a Dell Inspiron old but works, and who knows what's inside beside dusk bunnies.

I asked this same question at work and someone said they just built an editing PC which they dropped $8K (AUD) on. He's 18 years old...

Just picked up an X570 mobo (to replace my B450) and an RTX3090 GPU  :hdan
The GPU is because I need HDMI 2.1 as I replaced my monitor with a LG C2 42" OLED TV.
It's brilliant!

A while back I also swapped the PC into a new (ATX) case and upgraded to PSU.

I'll update my full specs once these arrive and I get it sorted.

When I swap those in I will also take the opportunity to do a fresh windows install, and will use Win 11 because well, why not. :)

Sounds great man. Glad you were able to upgrade things. That 3090 should do great with gaming. :rgton

EDIT: Actually, my specs have updated since my last post as well. I'll post them soon. Nothing major though.

You should play REAL adventure games from Infocom like The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and especially Leather Goddesses of Phobos  :D

QuoteIn 1988, Tom Clancy named Leather Goddesses of Phobos one of his favorite computer games, stating "I'd like to meet whoever wrote that. I just don't know what asylum to go to".

Having said that - anywhere I can get Myst and Riven for free?

If they are not REAL adventure games then why would you want them? LMAO

I remember the original The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy when it was released. I loved that game. :) I think I may have a copy on floppy somewhere...

I just made a sneaky purchase at a computer store online (have to go pick up tomorrow other side of the city).
Upgrading CPU and cooler, also got another ssd. I'll post revised specs in next few days, with luck.

I had to reset mine as I tweaked it just a little to far .

I get a PC mag every 2 weeks and in it last time they showed how to get rid of some of the stuff in the context menu that had been put there by programs installed over the 2 years. They suggested downloading a program for a site which I duly did, it ran without install and so off I went. Got rid of a lot of dross I didn't need and then went back and it still was still not small enough.

I then started to experiment and when I was happy with the context menu restarted the PC again and all was OK, until I looked at the desktop and noticed that some of my short cuts to the likes of Notepad and some other Windows programs had a different icon, upon clicking the icon a I got a pop up that said the parameters of the item I was after was not working.

After further tweaking and messing around trying to re-install Windows without success it came to the point where no matter what I did the PC would not boot. So I had to use a boot flash drive to restart and reset the whole system.

Where luck would have it I did a clone of the M.2 drive on to an external only a couple of days before so I had all my documents and photos etc.

I have a few NAS drives that I backup all the programs, music and other stuff I've bought over the years, but I've now gone a step further.

I have now added another 1TB SSD inside the machine, this now takes the total storage inside the machine to 3 TB, and I have cloned the system partition on to it. I have tested that it will boot from it by removing the M.2 and it does boot.

After about 6 days or so I'm now back to a machine I'm happy with.

If you got this far reading this then well done and thank you
