hi.
I've been asked by a member on www.notthenoobs.com if he can post embedded videos.
Is that possible/easy, and are there any drawbacks I need to be aware of?
Thanks

Skhilled

Yes, it is very easy...especially if you install mods that will do that like this one:

https://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2681

lurkalot

Or this one, as you're running SMF 2.0 Ohara YouTube Embed

Will only embed youtube or vimeo stuff but it's my go to mod for this sort off stuff.  ;)

nidec

Thanks guys.
Does this affect my bandwidth or slow down the site at all?

nidec

Bonus!
Just hit 50 posts and gone to Jr.Member

I use Simple Audio Video Embedder
Just works.
and I'm a fan of SMF hacks stuff.
Please do not PM me with questions on astrophysics or theology.  You will get better and faster responses by asking homeless people in the street. Thank you.

I've used both and they work just fine. No, they don't slow anything down that I can remember. All of the videos on my site are used with Simple Audio Video Embedder. Both mods work with both versions of SMF.

nidec

Ive just uploaded it.
Do I need to manually change any coding or is it automatic - I use Cleantek theme

You do not need to do anything but add links to your videos. However, you may with to check the admin settings cause it does have various types of videos it can use. Most are checked on by default but some are not. But most basic ones like YouTube, Vimeo, etc. are already turned on and don't need you to do anything for them to work.

I was expecting to see a video, but what Im seeing is the embed code as below

<iframe width="933" height="525" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9CvPzDgHSJ8" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

You should only need to post this part:

https://www.youtube.com/embed/9CvPzDgHSJ8

That's what I do on my site. Or just the direct Youtube link.

nidec

Thanks, I was overcomplicating it thinking I had to post the embed code ;D

Skhilled

No problem. :)

Use the embedded code for sites that don't have such a mod.

LandyVlad

The embed code never works... LOL

It will for admins who post the embed code between

tags  Unfortunately regular members can't use these tags..
