@lesmond you suggested that you may be able to help with this (in an earlier post somewhere).

Much of the work is already done I think as the Commando Comics theme will be a great base to start from.

I'll need to gather various stuff together,

  • 'logos' for each board (what dimension/s are required please?)
  • Banners for top of forum (again, what dimensions please)
  • Background image
and no doubt other stuff I cannot think of at the moment.

Once RC3 is released I'll duplicate my existing site (2.0.17) and upgrade to 2.1 RC3 as a test and example and playing with the theme and testing if mods work site.

Anyone else who has ideas is welcome to contribute.

For those interested, this is the theme les created for me previously
https://commandocomics.org/index.php?action=forum (https://commandocomics.org/index.php?action=forum)

and this is the site which I'll be upgrading and theming.

Cheers all

:edit: by @lesmond fixed link to gsx forum :)

no asap needed mate, when you get a chance is fine. No hurry at all.

I can't even remember what logos I sent you :)

@lesmond @Bigguy what is the preferred dimensions for the forum background image?

All depends what you want to show, plain graphics like the one here, which is 1366x768px if its a picture with an image its more difficult to get centred, so that would need to be bigger and in a fixed position

body {
    background: url(https://www.your-site.com/my-image.jpg) #0C3E61;
    background-attachment: fixed;
    background-size: 100% 100%;

Just a pattern of some sort using the colours our bikes came in. blue white red black

I'll have to see if I can figure something out in photoshop or something.

I'd be inclined to wait until at least RC3 comes out, because it looks like there'll be css changes and other theme changes etc.  Then you'll be having to fix it again.

That said, I guess there's no harm in experimenting while we wait.

Maybe your right, but like you say its good practise :)

Yeah well I certainly wont be changing the site until RC3 has been running a while to see how stable it is. But it's still an opportunity to start getting the 'look' together and me finding category and board images.

@lesmond   :rgton  :rgton  :rgton  :rgton  :rgton  :rgton  that's looking really good! I was quite cynical about using a background image but the way you've done that it looks good!

The logo in the header works well.

I need to sort some decent banner images.

I like the idea we had on the Commando forum of several images which cycle through. Would allow me to keep owners of blue/white and black bikes equally happy.  :)
(There's a friendly rivalry goes on between us)

On that particular point I recall that on the Commando forum there was an issue with banner images being stretched (and therefore out of proportion) to fit the screen size. Is there a way around this?

I was reluctant to use different images for the board icons because they are so hard to place and find ones that would fit, So I just used a Suzuki "S" which I thought looks OK

The rotating banners in the header have to be a certain size to work, ie. 1200x200px to use smaller images I think you would have to make the forum width narrow.

with the main background I wanted to make the main section more transparent so the image would show through more.

@lesmond
Here we are 12 months on and 2.1 is still only RC3 so the need for me to have done anything about this so far has been non-existent.

Just checking in the first instance if you are still willing to help me with a theme for the site?

Good O. I have a few days off next week - might get a chance to duplicate the forum as a test site.
