QuoteMicrosoft says it will stop supporting Windows 10 in 2025, as it prepares to unveil a major revamp of its Windows operating system later this month.

When Windows 10 was launched, Microsoft said it was intended to be the final version of the operating system.

But from 14 October 2025, there will be no new updates or security fixes for either the Home or Pro versions.

And Microsoft says its successor will represent one of the "most significant updates" to the OS in the past decade.

Its predecessor, Windows 7, was retired in 2020, although businesses could pay Microsoft to continue receiving updates for Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Enterprise.

Well since they've only just stopped supporting Win 7 I reckon they'll be supporting Win 10 well beyond 2025.  Or at least they had better do so unless the upgrade to the new OS is FREE.   :D hahahaha

Is the new OS called Linux?
I'd lay money it will rely more heavily on some linux architecture.

The aesthetics of the the thing are by far the least important concern of mine....

I'm much more concerned there will be an increased push towards stupid bloody windows 'apps' and the windows store.

Frankly I wish they'd focus on making an OS that simply works.

This will be Windows beta version 11 ... as usual....

It's not for me. I'll be staying with 10 as long as I can. It is supposed to be a free upgrade for people with W10 though.

I don't think Microsoft will go back to creating proper operating systems. "Free" makes them more money in the consumer realm.

Facebook/Google are doing well by selling user data to advertising agencies Microsoft is late to the game but they seem to be doing fine.

It seems you'll need to bite the bullet and use *nix (Linux/BSD) if you want a proper OS  8)

I have actually been thinking about Linux lately and maybe dual booting again. Not sure yet though.

MS is also making a lot of money lately by selling Open Source software on their market. ;)

As long as they give the source code that isn't bad. Red Hat has made a business out of it :)
GPLv2 allowed you to sell compiled versions of software as long as you distribute the source code for free. I think GPLv3 would have the same thing.

Yep all the tech YouTubers seem to find very little positive to say about Win 11 as compared with Win 10.

The benefits all seem to be for Microsoft rather than for users.
