Board Validating IP information does not have a valid parent. Use the 'find and repair errors' function to fix this.

I get this when using a second Admin. account. Can't make changes to forums.

Bigguy

That's from SMF....I have never seen that one before... :dontknow

Maybe change the name back see if that does the trick.

Until you settle on what you're going to do with your account domains and redirects you're going to have all kinds of problems.

Ha...I used the repair settings and turned it back to it's original forum..

I will make the final change over tomorrow..Now that I understand and know what I'm doing.

Ronald

I made all the changes.

The Host made seniorforums.ca the main domain. Then I ran the repair_settings.php. and made the name changes, which all went ok. But after contacting the Host about changing the name in the directories and paths, they now tell me that coffeeti is the user name of the Host and not to change the name..

See images of what I mean:

What bugs me is I have two members who are Global Moderators yet can not see or access the Admin. Staff Room. Try everything like clearing the cache, doing a F5 refresh, nothing works to make these members see the staff room..all the permissions are in place, I even went into there names and added them to the different sub groups, still nothing..

Something wrong here..

Your hosting is not changing the account name which is the problem. When you change the main domain name you should also change the account name as well. They either don't know what they are doing or can just create a new account with the name change and move your account to the new account...or don't wish to for some reason...

If they do not wish to make the change complete, then return everything to normal again. Then move the forum to a subdirectory, run repair_settings and make sure it works and then redirect the coffee domain to the seniors domain. Either way, if anyone tries to access either domain it should send them automatically to seniors.

I can return the forum back to what it use to be. Easy enough.

Now my problem is the rest of it, I have no clue on how to move the forum to a sub directory..

Do you know how to drag and drop files into a different folder in cPanel's File Manager? If not, then copy the files or download them. Create a subdirectory and upload all of the files to it along with repair_settings.php. Run repair_settings.php and make the necessary changes. If you run seniorsforums.ca in a browser then it should work.

Then you just have to create a redirect for the main account domain (coffeetimelimited.com, or whatever it is) to the new subdirectory for seniors. Both domains should then show the seniorsforums.ca forum.

Man now your making it more complicated than I thought.. I have never done any of this stuff in any cpanel..

What I should have told you to do is make it an addon domain in cpanel and it will create the folder, ftp, email, etc. for you. Then you can upload your files to that folder. You can use this tutorial to help but it's pretty easy:

https://www.hostgator.com/help/article/how-do-i-create-and-remove-an-addon-domain

Btw, I've just noticed that before you've been posting "seniorsforum.ca". The last link was "seniorforum.ca"...without the "S"! The one without the "S" works fine from what I can see except that there's no forum menu button, only home. I also notice that if you use https://seniorforum.ca you will go to the portal home page. If you use https://seniorforum.ca/index.php you can see the forum. So, something may not be set correctly with your portal unless you are purposely hiding the forum. If you click on any topic in the right block it will take you to that post/topic and show you the forum.

The forum URL is :  https://seniorforums.ca/index.php

I tried adding the domain, it tells me I can not park the main domain.

How about I get you to do this job for me..I am lost when it comes to this type of thing..

Had to get someone to help me do this..Group permissions, and the two theme skins I had were conflicting with the paths.

Bigguy

Glad it's solved. I sent you a PM about this but it's solved so no worries.

Only problem left now is I have a couple of Staff Members who still can't see the Staff Room..Have to find someone who knows about this.

Bigguy

It should not be to hard to figure it out. I can take a look later today if need be.

All taken care of. Fixed and working like a charm..

For future reference, the error in the first post meant that the "id_parent" value for that board was invalid (eg set to the ID of a non-existent board) in the database. In most cases that shouldn't happen though.

This was one of the problems: remove the permission for "manage boards and categories". I guess 2.1 doesn't like it when members have this checked.

Sorry, Ron. Been so busy working on a new server, etc. I didn't see this or have even been here lately.
