I feel I am ready to upgrade my forum to SMF 2.1 RC1. What should be the standard procedure to begin this..
I want it to go as smooth as possible. I have quite a  few mod.'s installed,  a few theme skins installed, and I know most are not compatible..I know for sure the skins are not compatible.

Can someone layout the steps for me please..

SychO

Start with uninstalling all the mods and removing all the themes
after that just download the package from the website, extract it to your forum (new files will replace the old ones)
and then run the upgrade.php file by opening it in your browser.

Can I uninstall the skins and mod.'s using the repair, or do it manually..

If I can use the repair does this remove all the files from the mod.'s or just remove the mod and not the files..

SychO

huh? uninstall the mods from the package manager, than switch your forum's theme to the default one and then delete all the other custom ones from the theme settings page.

Theme skins are now gone.

Mod.'s are all gone except three that have errors, I have to remove them manually.

Stop spam has about a dozen errors..

I know from using the repair_settings, it will pop the mods out for you, but didn't know if it also removed the files..

If your going to upload new files and overwrite the old ones than you can uninstall the mods that have errors in the files through the package manager. This will not matter. As long as there is no error in the database when uninstalling a mod.

When I attempt to uninstall a mod, a pink notice appears, and a highlighted spot that says to make changes..

So are you saying to just uninstalled the mod.'s that show errors, or just run the upgrade.

I am confused now..

Ronald

I removed some code that it says to and the board went out, so I put the code back in.

Now I have a problem with code I need is not to be found in the location..

Bigguy

When your doing an upgrade one of the steps is to uninstall the mods. This should be done right before you do the upgrade. If a mod has errors when uninstalling, at this point it is ok. You let it error when uninstalling and after that you upload all the new files for the upgrade and overwrite the ones on the server. Now that your overwrote those old files the errors are gone and you can point your browser to upgrade.php :)

I would upload the new files and do the upgrade as long as it was not a database error.

Got all the mod.'s out except Stop Spammer, it has 13 errors. See image and tell me if I need to replace all 13.

OK I got all the Mod.'s uninstalled no problems.. But Stop Spammer is not removed and has 13 errors. Are you saying I can just uninstall this mod even with the errors showing.. I don't have to correct each error?

Bigguy

#11
It has 1 error in 13 edits on ManageMembers.php. If it was me I would uninstall it like that and do the upgrade. Once you upload the files the ManageMembers.php file will be overwritten.
