Been trying yo do a conversion from myBB 1.8 to SMF 2.0.17. Steve (Skhilled) has been attempting to do this..He is running into brick walls.

I never have any good results installing forums, so I have always used the instant installer in the cPanel. I guess maybe this is what is screwing to transfer.

Here is one problem:

QuoteI have a myBB forum with a domain outside of /public_html that points to seniorforums.net and is in the folder of the same name. If I move it under /public_html it points it to seniorforums.ca instead of .net?

The above is what I asked the Host support and there answer back was:

QuoteWith addon domain in cPanel you can choose the document root for any domain, and set it to any location, inside public_html, or below public_html, it makes not difference and the choice is yours as to what you want to do and where a domain points.

Doesn't solve the problem much, because this is what Steve has been trying.

Anyone have any ideas?

I will try this today after work, I have some time before I leave for Melbourne (Victoria has opened travel) to see my mum.

For SMF any time you move a forum you have to use repair_settings to change the core values to relfect the new location. IS there anything like repair_settings for mybb. :???

All mybb has is this: https://community.mybb.com/thread-210580.html

SMF has a converter for doing mybb over to smf..so where would repair_settings come in?

Myself I did a repair_settings, and change the name of another forum I have and all the urls.

The first quote in your post above states that you moved your mybb forum and now instead of it pointing to .net, it points to .ca. So I asked if maybe mybb had something like a repair_settings like SMF does so you can repairn the base urls in order for the conversion to go smoother, If this is what the brick walls are that he is running into. This MIGHT help, not sure:

Steve had it moved, and it always pointed to a .ca domain. Never did see a SMF forum, jto mybb forum, and it looked like it was dieing a slow death, no colour to it, and when you clicked on anything, it threw a error..

So it never did get moved..

But it is supposed to point to the .net right:

QuoteThen look find inc/settings.php

And edit this line: $settings['bburl']
This is a quote from the post I linked you to. Has this been done yet or does it need to be done in order for it to point to .net instead of .ca. Just a question. But editing that file, if it has not already been done might help in some way. :???

Not sure if that has to be done first. Steve kept getting errors

If I go to http://seniorforums.net/ I see the mybb forum.
You cannot view this attachment.
If I go to http://seniorforums.ca I see your public_html directory list.

Nesa that is correct. seniorforums.net is a myBB 1.8 forum.

seniorforums.ca use to be a SMF RC3 forum, but it had errors and no one could figure them out, so it was deleted, this is where the myBB come in.

What I wanted was the myBB forum to be converted over to a SMF 2.0.17 and called seniorforums.net

I can try to do a conversion on my Linux laptop, I can install myBB use your database dump and try a conversion. It might rule out the host as an issue if I also have problems.

I'm not sure 100% if this is what you wanted.
http://seniorforums.net/ now points to the new converted SMF site.

I have kept the old mybb site and I can change the DNS if you need it to point to seniorforums.net
