Ok so..

I
- copied all my forum files into a new directory.
- created a new database smf21org
- exported the tables from the existing database
- imported those tables into the new smf21org database.
- used "repair_settings"
- used repair settings to update all paths to the smf21org directories, and updated user and password. And removed all hooks.  (obviously then deleted repair_settings)

The weirdness is that once I logged in I get:
You cannot view this attachment.

And neither of those links do anything.
There's no way to logout etc.

What have I done wrong, and more importantly what do I need to do to fix it please?

Why did you remove all hooks? Did you uninstall all your mods first because if they are still installed and you removed hooks some of the mods will be broken.  If they are all hooks only mods then ignore my question. ;)

Also you normally need to run repair settings twice to make sure you change all the theme paths urls etc. They don't often show up on the first run.

LandyVlad

Um  I don't know why I removed hooks but I'll be uninstalling all mods anyway as upgrading to 2.1?

Where do hooks live? in the database?

I've run repair settings twice - no dice.

Hooks are in the files of the mod I do believe.

So that being the case a lack of hooks shouldn't matter if I don;t need the mods?

I can reinstall the ones I need I guess.

Like I said, if a mod is partial hooks that means not only does it add hooks, it also makes edits to core files. So removing hooks will break the mod and still leave the file edits in place. If however a mod is hooks only then it makes no edits to core files, and will add it's own files as required.

Well it's still calling theme files from your main site. so something isn't right there.

LandyVlad

@lurkalot so I ran repair settings again and I THINK that issue of directories is resolved now.

But nothing has changed regarding the forum still getting same issue as per OP

I think it's a mod issue because you've removed all of the hooks. You may need to just upload fresh smf files and run upgrade.php then reinstall your mods. You may have lost all of your mod's settings, etc. and will probably have to start the mods all over again.

LandyVlad

Ta but why upgrade php? Assuming I'd be uploading a fresh set of 2.0.18 files.
Why not just repair settings?

Excuse my ignorance (or perhaps excuse my poor memory).

When you removed the hooks it removed them from all versions. Use upgrade.php to make sure the process ran correctly, remember you still need to make sure the db upgrades correctly as well. This way, you'll know if all is good providing you don't see any errors.

If all of the links are already correct there's no need to run repair_settings.php again unless you just want to make sure nothing was missed.

LandyVlad

OK I uploaded a new set of files and ran upgrade.php and it works now :)

Mod still there but not installed.

OK now I can go about trimming the content of the site to something more manageable and then doing a 2.1RC4 upgrade :)
