Ok so I increase the upload file size on MultiPHP INI Editor in cpanel too 100mb and tried again, same error.

I also tried another image with a smaller file size of 1.5mb but the same dimensions 3648x2736 px that didn't throw any errors

Nothing relating to this that I can see!

Try using repair_settings and see if one of the url's is off.

It's something server side as that is what the 500 error code means. What version of php are you on. Is the db in strict mode. ??

Look for an "error_log" file in your forum's root directory. There should be more info in there.

I've come late to the party but the issue seems to be fixed now. No more 500 errors. I wasn't around when whoever fixed it.

Bigguy

Glad it's fixed. :) How was it fixed. ??

What's going on is they are trying to upload very large (large in file size...MB) attachments. From everything I know, SMF 2.0.x and earlier versions were never meant to take large attachments. The size should be in kilobytes, not megabytes or higher. Larger files should be uploaded to the server and then linked using the editor with BBC or other codes to make it show. I don't know of any other way. If someone does know then please let us know.

Files that are also too large in width/height will break the forum width.

I thought it was based on this.

Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't......hmm. Is this a shared server it's on or.... :ques

Shared server, its the one me and steve run.

I wonder if it has something to do with server resources being tied up at some points and this is why you get the error.

It's not happening on any of the other sites on the server. No one has any complaints so far. I'm logged into most of the sites on the server at least weekly and there's no problems.

My thoughts are that there's a mod conflict somewhere that's causing these problems. I doubt the hooks were removed the last time the forum was updated or worked on and the mods reinstalled. The newly installed mods were also probably not manually checked to make sure all of the code for the mods is in place which can also cause conflicts.

They must remember that just because you've installed or uninstalled mod and got no errors doesn't mean that it worked correctly. Sometimes, you'll only find out there's a problem when you try to use something.

So I installed ElkArte (which you know is an SMF fork) on a vps with webuzo, no errors at all.

I installed a fresh smf 2.0.15 on the same vps and I got the same error with that, which tells me its a SMF problem and not the server.

So its not any mods or hooks!

What file type is the attachment and what size is it?

...of course they are image files... What extension?

Skhilled

Hmmm, maybe try a .txt file for the same size or larger and see if there's a difference. May not be just a file size difference. Also you've never mention the dimenisions...width and height.

lesmond

Tried a 4mb text file no errors, image dimensions dont seem to affect anything, its just the file size thats the problem.
