Quote from: Skhilled on Aug 25, 2020, 10:19 AMYou may be right. It may not work on 2.1 but can't hurt to ask them or see if they can help.

If you still have a backup from 2.0.x that one should work, I'd think. Either way, it's a test site and can be trashed and started over...no harm done.

I asked on MyBB support, they claim there is a new merge program, and yes 2.1 can be converted.

Do you want to try it..

Skhilled

Cool! myBB is usually on top of things. Not sure when I can try it...got a lot on my plate this weekend.

You'd have to send me a copy of your forum's db.

The mod.'s are all installed via FTP, got mixed up on a couple. They have a plugin installer but it's a piece of crap.
You have to manually add code for some things to show and work, you have to check the mod if it's 1.6 or 1.8.

MyBB might be a good forum, I know support is helpful, plenty of mod.s to install, but once you have the forum installed and running, it's all work after that, I'd say it is not really all cut out to be what we think..

It's a shame SMF doesn't have the volunteers to get the job done..Just takes way to long to do they upgrades.

Skhilled

The plugin is old and no longer supported so you must install the old fashioned way.

Any forum you run requires work...that's the job of being an admin unless you pay for someone else to do it.

SMF needs to stop hating and be more supportive towards each other and their users and then just "maybe" they might get people back helping more.

You sure got this right, they have a couple bad eggs on SMF, who think they know it all, and think SMF can not survive without them..

Quote from: Ronald on Aug 23, 2020, 05:25 PMTo little too late for me, I have closed my forum. Tried forever to get the mail to work, never worked. Took it over to a free forum, mail works, and updated regular. MyBB.

Tired of waiting years and years for SMF to upgrade there software. Just seems to be something wrong inside the group..

Did SMF2.0 stop working for you then?  Just curious because because you upgraded to SMF 2.1 and that being at RC2 status means it's not finished and will obviously have bugs.  Hence why it's not recommended for production use.

The idea is they release RC, you try it out in a test environment, and if you spot something that's not working then report it in the way of a bug report.  That in turn helps the bugs get squashed for the next release.

If however you run 2.1 on production site, like bigguy does here for example then you do so at your own risk and have no reason to complain. The difference here is we have gained a fair few bug reports just from using it on this site, and bigguy knows it's buggy in the first place. ;)

No it was the latest 2,1 beta. Runic was keeping us updated with the latest. The mail system stopped, and no one could figure it out, I figured with no help, in correcting this, and no mail system, no sense staying with it..

I did report this way back and they corrected it, but it disappeared again, and no one knew why..

I am not complaining, at least I don't think I am. SMF has to many people fighting and can't get things done. There support group is going downhill with the know it alls they have, who bitch because you ask a question, one reason I stopped going to support..

I still like SMF, but time to move on, another learning experience.

More movement,  ;)

So RC3 went from 100% back to 99% - that's just cruel. And...

:bnghd  They've introduced there will be an RC4 now?

WHY ?!  (sort of a rhetorical question, My theory - it's so they can say "here RC3 is ready" and that a lot of the items that were open in RC3 have now been bumped to RC4)

That'll really get people fired up and not in a good way. People are anxious for a stable release version of 2.1

Not the least reason for which is that mod authors can then be confident in making their existing mods work for 2.1, and create new mods for 2.1

Please do not PM me with questions on astrophysics or theology.  You will get better and faster responses by asking homeless people in the street. Thank you.

Just saw this helpful announcement / communication on the SMF website developer's blog:

If you look closely you'll see that's only because there's a new pull request waiting to be merged for it, and that pull request is prepping it for RC3 release, upping the version number to RC3 etc.

Oldiesmann

Just upgraded both christianphotographers.com and seniorsandfriends.org to the latest GitHub build last night. Still need to do archiefans.com but need to make sure there aren't any necessary theme changes for that first.

Quote from: Ronald on Aug 24, 2020, 12:57 PMNope just closed shop and opened a free forum that vbgamer45 hosts. Not all that good either, slow.

Never knew I could merge, well to begin with I have no clue where to begin or what to do. I'm not good at doing these types of things..
I saw you had a forum on createmybb.com what was slow about it? i haven't heard of reports of it being slow. My flagship forum hosting is createaforum.com based on SMF eventually will b offer 2.1 hosting as well
