I've posted a question in cPanel forums asking if there was a way to revert back to the state it was in when you first installed it. Of course, there isn't a way to do this...yet. So, I've added a Feature Request to add this so it works to make things user friendly for everyone. :)Read More

So you are finally running the latest SMF 2.1 from GitHub, that's great. If you wanna stay up to date than you are going to have to keep watching GH for all those important updates to the core code. Upgrading is not hard to do from GH. Really the only thing required is to make your upgrade package. So lets get at that now then.

I thought I would write an install guide for SMF for anyone looking to install SMF 2.1 from GitHub. I must say though, while SMF 2.1 is in great shape with very few bugs, it should not be used for a live site unless you really know what you are doing. It's great for testing though and checkin out the new features. RC3 will be the next release. Okay, so on to the install guide.

Newsgroups is what started it all off. These were the first forums around. They were not pretty to look at but they got the job done. These go as far back as the 70's. Yup, forums have been around a very long time. Most of them at the start were not for the public but for corporations and such and were held on an intranet, not the internet.
