Ok I had posted in the Showcase Board to just show what I had  then it progressed to  my dilemma of wanting to update some of my active sites from 2.0.9 to 2.1.6 along with Gobs of other off topic stufff lol .
Thought I would post here  in the install board.

      Where I am currently .

I Am Happy with what I have however the version I am running I am told will not run in the latest php version. So I have been playing around in my c-panel  trying to refresh my diminished skills for 12 or so years ago with my Go-Daddy host and got to this point .
I have several Domains redirected to diff places and a couple with no content to speak of . One in particular is redirected to createaforum.com and I could use it to practice updates to get what I want that works fine in 2.0  I managed to find the file section for that site and really aint nuttin in it .

Now it is redirected so I assume I need to remove the redirect then upload the 2.1 package ? If there is a full install package option ?

Here is what I have running in most my 2.0 sites and hope these will work in 2.1 or can be modified to work Plus I want the Moving Banner option that is NOT in the header of 2.1 as running on this page
https://lagunapark.net/smf/

One MORE problem I don't know if I can  update my version of php to the latest on Just the  domain/Website I am installing in  the c/panel settings or will it update all the websites as this will
probablly mess them up. I have tried to ask go-daddy but their support  just plain SUCKS as it takes hours to get a person and or one that does not have some dialect I can't understand and I get pissed an hang up ....lol

Ok, for the 1st one...

Do not upload your forum to the domain.com directory. Create a subdirectory under /public_html and upload it there. The reason for this is security. If the forum gets hacked, most likely, the hacker will only have access to the subdirectory and not the main one (public_html) with, potentially, other things in it. Then, point the domain to that subdirectory.

For the 2nd...

If this is a test site just to play with to mimic your live site, then you will need to use the repair_settings.php tool from SMF:

https://download.simplemachines.org/index.php?tools

If you are starting from scratch and don't care then point the domain to your subdirectory as mentioned above.

For the 3rd...

You need to go to the SMF site and see if your mods will work with v2.1. Personally, I'm not sure if there's a mod for the moving banner. But, I'm sure that someone will know how to do it.

WAYYYyYYYYY too many variables right now for me . THe site as I stated will be an active working living breathing as it is now via redirect to createaforum .Just going to put it ACTIVE on the go-daddy host I have all my others working there  , There is basically nothing there to worry about but is fully functional with everything I desire in a forum except running in an older version of smf . and php I have to remove the redirect and get all the essentials in order to install the full monty of the latest SMF 2.1 and all it's bells and whistles without affecting any other of my current operating forums whereas I am  at the MERCY of Go Daddy's tech team that I can not get to presently as in the navigation of their C-Panel and my current php versions . Yes I am doing this to see what will work and what won't but also NEED to know when I do any updates to any php upgrades in one will it affect all hosted there and can not get any answers to that . It may be easier to just change over to phbb and start over .  Again it's been over ten years since I did anything like this and my skills are lacking especially trying to navigate Go- Daddys c-panel and file locales for each site . So I am collecting info before I change any thing  . I at this point don't see a pliable way to do this without affecting my other working  Sites .
Thanks for your input everyone

I thought about it again late in the night and realized that you won't need the 2nd part. You'll just need the 1st and 3rd. For some reason "test site" got stuck in my head. LOL

Yepper I am leaning towards LEAVING oldreelcollectors.com alone . Moving 16 Domains I own away from Go Daddy to another host ,have them migrate all registrars, domains, forums all Kit and Kaboodels . Leave the php in oldreelcollectors at current setting as they SAY their software supports it as well as the newest version No Xtra Charge like Go Daddy is gonna start hitting me with . They Say we can install 2.1 on what ever site I want with the Latest php version without affecting any other websites (REMAINS TO BE SEEN ) I host in the c-panel . I have 16 Domains that I know of right now  (May be more but I have to search and see)
The new hosts have 24 hour phone support and speak what I can actually under stand. IT SEEMS I will have everything and more that I have with go daddy and some extra  maybe a bit cheaper.
Problem is I have to pay to register all the domains to the New Host plus finding all the logins and places I have them.

Hope to do this in Feb after my Denture surgery and New internet/phone service is up and running . I am going with Green Geeks as it is right now . I have looked at many and these folks SEEEM To have good ratings and I can almost afford them . Yell out if you think not .
Thanks for all your help folks.

THEN I WANT TO SELL ABOUT 10 DOMAINS.
Any ideas on who ,what,or where to do this .

I haven't heard of Green Geeks before so I looked them up. They do seem pretty good. However, I'm reading that the renewal rate after the first year will go up:

https://www.greengeeks.com/shared-hosting#pricing

I see that you're concerned about affordability, so I checked. If that's ok with you, then go for it.

I know nothing about selling domains. Sorry.

EDIT: And, the price on that page is for 1 year pre-paid.

Bob,

I took the liberty of using a VPN and went to the US version of Hostinger.com. If you look at the attached you'll see that 48 months of hosting is only $143.52 if I were you I would go down this route then you have nothing to worry about for 4 years. Your current domains if already owned by you and fully paid up can be transferred to Hostinger.

See below info from their site

QuoteCan I migrate existing websites to Hostinger?
Yes, you can quickly and easily migrate your existing website to Hostinger - and it's free. We offer an unlimited website migrations service that handles everything and ensures you can transfer your site - or sites - without any hassle, cost, data loss, or downtime.

I have a domain name at a different company. Can I transfer it to Hostinger?
Absolutely. You can transfer your domain name to Hostinger by following our simple domain transfer process. Then you can manage your domain and hosting services all in one place.

I don't think you'll get a better deal than that at the moment Bob

I just found out that if you use the following link, it says you'll get and extra 20% off. Again see the attached. I will get something too  ;D

https://hostinger.co.uk?REFERRALCODE=BMTDAVEJOY2Q

NOTE: You need to copy and paste the whole link into your browser Bob. One thing I'm not sure about is if it wont work as you're in the US and I'm in the UK, but if it doesn't work you haven't lost anything
