Dave THANK YOU very much for your help however I am not checked out any more on things like messing with .htaccess  and or most anything you mentioned . I CAN navigate my c-panel  change a few things in  html code that is within the already working code itself once I find it . I can't draw a straight line with a straightedge. I have a MAXIMUM package Go-Daddy account I bought quite a few years ago with unlimited domain hosting and a bunch of bells and whistles they do not offer it anymore .I don't begin to understand but a lot of things are plug and play so to speak and one does not need to use .htaccess to change things .  I am in my 70's and things just don't click like they use to for me.  I built nost of these 20 or more yeaars ago and have moved them at least 6 times to different hosts over the years and ended up with Go Daddy about 6 or 7 years ago then with help dzonny over on  simplemachines forum and he changed everything from V-Bulletin to smf. updated  php, mysqyl and all the things to bring sites up to date at THAT time .
I was able to fumble through and update pacakges, mods ,through the admin on the sites itself up till about 4 year ago . I got ill and damn near died with the  QUAK DOCTORS here .( Now if anyone needs a Virtual Crying Towell let me know). But WAIT there's MORE.
SMF has moved on MILES ahead of me in software and stuff to where I will need to soon revamp everything to the latest an greatest but I WANT things I have to still work if at all possible . I  have found in my c-panel on the go daddy server where to update php by mere clicking on the version I want and click on update. With that said I need to know IF it updates ALL Websites or just one and I need to know  when I do upgrade to  2.1 what will still work and can be updated to new versions etc.
I DO NOT want to lose years of tutorials I have written and photos I have stored onsite in Gallery .
Now for the block buster . I have been with go  -Daddy host and Verizon Wireless for years .  Verizon throttled me back to only 15 gig  of fast speed after that  to 3 . At very best   I downloaded what I thought to be a back up of everything yesterday @ 13.gig which is not really that much . It took 4 and a half hours  I KNOW might should have used FTP but I don't remember how.
Like I mentioned previously I AM A DINOSAUR compared to you .
I KNOW I need to get away from go daddy but dont know where else to turn that offers the unlimited  domain hosting at an affordable price . YES I need to sell a bunch of these  Domains I own  but WHERE  not all are registered with Go-Daddy  One company I tried a while back wantedme to point them to there server  and that's not gonna happen . I would gladly pay to have someone to help with this in futurea and kinda need to know  a range of how much so I can get the bux together .
RIGHT NOW everything is working  (but for how long )I don't know !
SERMON OVER  FEEL FREE TO ROAM ABOUT THE INTERWEB
 and THANKS

Here is my current BLAZING Connection Speed. I Am going to Wally World on the morrow to check out Skhilled's idea.

This is who I'm with Bob, https://www.hostinger.com/uk/pricing at present they have some great deals on. Have a look at the 50GB option. For me in the UK it's £143 for 4 years, not sure if the same deal is available in the US

Will look int it but I prefer Stateside service and one with phone support . Will look into it. Thank you .
Looks like they offer free migration in a sort and may be what I need to put one of my parked domains and do the Gauntlet for just a few bux a month  I will have to get a better internet provider with much faster speed and bandwitdth before I do anything .
I live in a rural area and things just SUCK at the price I can afford. I certainly COULD get satelite but can not afford it .THey recently installed Fiber optic service here in the area but it has gone down three or four times in the last couple of months because of the
Crackheads stealing the cable thinkin it is copper

Quote from: Bob Clifton on Jan 18, 2026, 04:42 PMThat is the whole Enchilada I DON'T know If my forums in  my current set up 2.0.19  and php 7.3 when updated to current php settings would function properly then updating to 2.1 would work  .  I realize updates are important for security, better functionality, new mods ,software etc but I want all my sites to Work exactly as they are as I like  they way they work is all .

The minimum PHP version for 2.1 is 7.1, so you should be able to upgrade with the existing PHP settings then change things afterwards. A test site is definitely the way to go though if you're not sure whether everything will work the way you want with 2.1

If you are using mods from the SMF site then you can easily search for the mod there and you can see what versions that it works for. At least, you'll know which one may or may not work. And the same goes for your themes.

There's no such thing as "unlimited" hosting. They may make that claim but it's actually untrue. Basically, you can do whatever you want as long as you don't use too much server space or bandwidth. If you do then they will let you know about it. You are on a server that has a finite amount of space. So that in itself means you won't get unlimited. This is especially true with shared hosting because you are sharing the server resources with everyone else that's on the server.

Oh I am aware of the Claims of bandwidth etc, most everyone does it .

Every thing is from SMF home pag stuff except My Board Icon had to be tweaked to work.
.createaforum is running everything I want. Wonder WHAT version php and version of SMF he is using for his peoples hosting ????

Skhilled

For Creataforum? You should be able to see what versions are available in cPanel...if they have one. I haven't used it in ages. LOL

Dont have accsess to c-panel at the server level  in .createafoum just admin for your forums hosted there

Skhilled

Oh, yeah. Now I remember. You could always ask them.

But, if your live site in on GD then use that because you'll be using the same things your live site has.

Yes I noes dat ....lol

I have about 20 createaforum sites and 10 or more smfforfree.com I bought domains for people then put wkn sites up for them to use in expectation to get reimbursed for the money I spent on Domaons  them the domain and to set up a reg site with a reg host . Not one ever paid a nickel so most of the domains I paid for I just let expire .

Skhilled

Oh, yes! I remember SMFforfree, as well. It's the same as the other. I haven't used any of those free sites in ages! LOL So, the best I could tell you is to just ask them.

YEPPER, THANK YOU
I THINK I can use a parked domain I have on my  Go-Daddy package there and I also THINK Go-Daddy has SMF in there forums packages on site that I could ???? just do a Clean install from the c-panel without having to upload using my bandwith THEN install mods and such ??????

Skhilled

For their forums packages, do you mean Softaculous? If so, I don't recommend using it cause it has cause people problems in the past.

EDIT: Well, now that I think about it, you can use it for a test site. You just don't want to use it for a live site, especially, if you have to upgrade it.

I originally installed 1.1 through what ever host I was using at the time and gradually updated to 2.0 .
I just Goggled the query and it is plausible using this

Yes, you can install Simple Machines Forum (SMF) 2.1 through your
GoDaddy cPanel, typically using the Installatron or Softaculous application installer included in your hosting package.
Here is how to do it and the methods available:
Method 1: Using Installatron (Recommended for GoDaddy)
GoDaddy cPanel often uses Installatron for one-click installations.

Log in to your GoDaddy Hosting account.
Select Manage next to your Web Hosting (cPanel) account.
    Click cPanel Admin.
Scroll down to the Software section and click Installatron Applications Installer.
Search for SMF or look under the "Forums" category.
    Click + install this application.
Fill in the requested details (Domain, Directory, Admin Username, Password) and click Install.

I just need to refresh my memory of navigating Go-Daddy stuff
