SMF at 7:30 PM today just released the public version of 2.1 in the release client stage. It has been a long time coming but we are all glad it is here. A lot of work has went into it and new features added. Please read this post from SMF to find out what has went on with the release:

SMF 2.1 RC1 announcement

Yes I got the same announcement..

Is this release stable enough to run a live forum on, that is my question.

They are still hammerin out bugs but it is stable enough in my opinion. There might be a fix or two that must be manually coded from GH but that would be it.

You'll see in the first post of the announcement thread, https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=564881.0 it says

"The term "Release Candidate" means that the developers believe this version of the software is reliable enough to be installed and used on production websites. Nevertheless, you should still expect to encounter minor bugs in SMF 2.1 RC1. We encourage you to report any bugs you find."

Yea I seen and read the notice. I want to upgrade my forum https://coffeetimeunlimited.com/index.php to this version..

Not sure about how to go with it..I have a lot of mod.'s, do I need to run Repair to remove the mod.'s first or just run the upgrade, because I know a lot of the mod.'s I have installed are not compatible..

Uninstall all your mods after you take a backup of the site. Once those two things are done you can upload and overwrite the files with the large upgrade and run it. It should not be hard at all. When I upgrade a site, the first thing I do is uninstall mods. Errors or not it really doesn't matter cause all the files will be over written anyway. After that I upload and over write the files on the server with the upgrade and run it. Then if all goes well you have a clean install and you can start with your mod installation.

This is just a short summary. Backups should be taken before mods are uninstalled. This includes a backup of the database.

I just installed a Test Forum, how do I change the url to https://

Well, the zip was labelled RC2 but it did not change the line in the footer so I don't know. We have been updated though lol.

What's the actual RC1 to RC2 upgrade process?

Things have changed on GH. Now there isn't one really. A lot of changes going on now. I would hold tight if I were you.

Yes I saw that thanks.

A significant bug has been found in SMF 2.1 RC1 that prevents alerts and notification messages from being sent. A fix for this has already been included in the code on GitHub and will be available in SMF 2.1 RC2. In the meantime, this patch has been provided for users of SMF 2.1 RC1. It will give errors if you already have the fix.
