I run a nextcloud instance on my mini PC.
If you have a really old PC it might be worth getting something newer that is still second hand. My 2nd gen i7 uses way more power then my mini PC I think my mini PC also beats it in performance.

Yes, I was thinking of using my last PC for storage and maybe a but extra. It has 2 Hdd's and one SSD. I need to also port a few things to my new PC first.

However, I'm also not sure if I want to use it as a linux box, etc. There's a lot of options. LOL One of my Hdd's has a version of linux on it but will either need to be updated or converted to another flavor. I've been also trying to add a multi-boot on my current PC using the PC and it's drives AND a portable SSD with linux on it. So far, I've been having a bit of problems with the dual-boot part. But, I haven't really been very active about fixing it lately because of a lot of other things that need fixing first. :P

EDIT: OR... "Hack Together an Anonymous PC". Like #4 here. Ooooooo ;D :
